The announcement of $7.5 million from the government of B.C. matches the generous contribution of Joe and Rosalie Segal for the creation of Simon Fraser University's Segal Graduate School of Business.
The Segal Graduate School of Business, located at the corner of Granville and Pender in downtown Vancouver, opened briefly today for the funding announcement and to honour other donors who have helped push the total for the $25 million campaign to over $20 million. It was also an opportunity for supporters to view the progress of renovation.
Slated for completion in September 2005, the building has been seismically upgraded, the roof has been lifted and many of the building's heritage aspects have been refurbished and preserved, from the marble columns in Founders Hall to the enormous vaults in the basement.
The Segal Graduate School of Business will house all of SFU's graduate business programs, several new business and financial research centres and specially designed meeting space for downtown business education events and activities.
Set in the heart of Vancouver's business district, it is sure to create new synergies and research opportunities for the downtown business community and for SFU Business students and faculty
“The Segal Graduate School of Business will put Vancouver on par with other North American cities that have prestigious downtown business schools, and establish a premier centre for graduate business education in western Canada,” says SFU President Michael Stevenson. “It is another important step in the enhancement of British Columbia's and Canada's economic and business prospects.”
