In the fall of 2003, Simon Fraser University will introduce a new graduate program – the Master’s in Public Policy. The program, the first of its kind in western Canada, takes advantage of SFU’s interdisciplinary strengths in policy research. Professors in economics, business administration, political science, education, communication and other disciplines will all be involved in teaching and public policy research associated with the program.

Acting program director Nancy Olewiler, a professor of economics, says the market for such a program is quite large, with both students and potential employers expressing interest. She expects to enroll 20 students in the fall.

"Our program focus is on policy research and techniques for policy analysis that will offer our graduates a wide range of positions in the public and private sectors, as well as with non-governmental organizations," says Olewiler.
A special feature of the program is a summer internship with public or private sector organizations.
