April 24, 2003
Members of Simon Fraser University Surrey’s first graduating class are leaving the innovative school with a flare, showing off their practical, playful and ingenious applications at the young campus’s Open House on April 23.
SFU Surrey is inviting high school students, their parents, teachers and counselors, and the general public to the Open House, which takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Central City-based campus.
The students, faculty and staff at the Surrey campus are going all out for the Open House. A highlight will be the work of the fourth-year students, SFU Surrey’s first graduating class. The students will be demonstrating several projects, including:
Besides the fourth-year projects, there’ll be robots wandering around, a virtual fashion show (a real-time collaboration between SFU Surrey students and students at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York) and simulated robotic soccer, and much more. SFU Surrey students will be on hand to give guided tours of the campus and answer questions.
"It’s a chance for us to show off the campus and our programs, especially the TechOne program," says Matthew Grant, a student recruiter at SFU Surrey. TechOne is the common program taken by all first-year students at SFU Surrey. Following TechOne, students can continue in the information technology and interactive arts program at SFU Surrey or apply to transfer to other SFU programs.
SFU Surrey is located at Central City, 10153 King George Highway, Surrey (a block away from the Surrey Central SkyTrain station). More information about the Open House and directions can be found at http://www.surrey.sfu.ca/openhouse
