May 30, 2003
Simon Fraser University’s newest campus, SFU Surrey, will reach another milestone on June 5 when 46 undergraduates and one graduate student receive their degrees at SFU’s spring convocation.
They will be the first students to graduate from SFU Surrey, which opened its doors last year. The undergraduate students will receive Bachelor of Science degrees, while Adrian Jones will receive a Master of Applied Science degree. The ceremony comes just six days after the inauguration of the School of Interactive Arts and Technology at the Surrey campus.
Simon Fraser University assumed responsibility for the students and programs of the former Technical University of British Columbia (TechBC) in 2002. The graduating students all began their studies at TechBC.
One of those students, Erika Glover, says she is proud to be in the first graduating class. "I like the idea of us being role models for future students. We’re paving the way for the next group of students."
SFU Surrey is home to the School of Interactive Arts and Technology, part of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. Other programs, including continuing studies, business administration and education, are under development at the Surrey campus.
