Simon Fraser University has appointed Cathy Daminato as its vice president, advancement. She takes up her new post on July 28, 2003.

Daminato will work with the university’s senior management and the board of governors to set fundraising strategy and she will lead a team of advancement professionals to raise the university’s fundraising activity to a new level.

"Ms. Daminato brings to her role more than 15 years experience in fundraising in B.C.," says SFU president Michael Stevenson. "Her previous success in both the post secondary sector and the health care sector make her a strong addition to the university’s senior management team."

Daminato comes to SFU from the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation where she has been executive director since 1997. During her tenure, the foundation experienced an increase of more than 300 percent in general donations, and endowment and capital funds increased by 200 percent.

"SFU is an institution with an international reputation. That reputation, and new initiatives such as the Institute for Health Research and Education, the Segal Graduate School of Business, SFU Surrey and the drive for a new home for the School for the Contemporary Arts make this opportunity particularly exciting," says Daminato. "I look forward to working with faculty, students and staff to ensure SFU secures the support necessary to achieve its goals."

Daminato also has held senior advancement positions at the Simon Fraser Health Region and the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT). She has a bachelor of science from Queen’s University and a master of business administration from UBC.
