SFU’s popular seniors program is coming to Surrey. The program will begin operating out of the new SFU Surrey campus in September with four non-credit courses: Introduction to Mysticism; Who Wrote the Bible; Hot Topics from Today’s News; and Ancestry, History and Personal Identity. The courses run weekly for 8-10 weeks.

More than 1,400 seniors (aged 55 and older) take courses through the program at SFU Vancouver. Says program director Alan Aberbach. “Over the years, one fact became crystal-clear: our seniors want intellectually challenging non-credit courses. They want to think and learn. I am delighted that we are bringing the program to Surrey as well.”

Besides non-credit courses, the program also offers a series of free forums, open to people of any age. The first, The American Presidency: The Use and Abuse of Power will be held in the Westminster Savings Credit Union Lecture Theatre at the Surrey campus on Saturday, September 23 at 1 p.m.

Representatives from the program and other areas of SFU continuing studies will be at SFU Surrey’s grand opening September 9 to answer questions and provide further information.

For more information about the opening, see the SFU Surrey website at surrey.sfu.ca/opening. For more about the Seniors program and to be placed on the mailing list, call program assistant Anna Kalfa at 604.291.5212.
