Simon Fraser University salutes five of its best at the outstanding alumni awards celebration, 7 pm, Thursday, Feb. 28, at Vancouver’s Four Seasons Hotel.

The annual event honors grads who have made exceptional contributions to the communities where they live and work. Honorees this year are:
Gyda Chud, a graduate of the professional development program in the faculty of education, is known as a "tireless advocate for pre-school children," community volunteer and co-founder of the West Coast Child Care Resource Centre.

Chris Spence, a criminology grad and a one-time running back for the BC Lions, who is the youngest superintendent in the Toronto school district (Canada’s largest). He has made a huge impact, turning around troubled schools and their students. He’s author of The Skin I’m In: Racism, Sports and Education.

Alumni association past-president Darcy Warner, an EMBA alum and president of HrNetwork Inc., has spent the past 20 years on university and alumni committees working to help SFU. He will be recognized for his "enormous and lasting volunteer contributions to the university."

Gold medal wrestler Chris Wilson is one of BC’s most successful athletes winning at the provincial, national and international levels. Following his graduation in business administration he continues his support for wrestling at SFU and on the executive of the BC Wrestling Association.

The student leadership award goes to Scott Logie, a third year engineering science and theatre student who has organized student conferences and events, played on sports teams and tread the boards in campus theatre productions, while retaining his honor roll standing.
