Deepening relations with Ghana
Caveat emptor: buying drugs online
A B.C. woman has died after poisoning herself with contaminated pills she
purchased on the Internet, apparently from a bogus pharmacy. SFU business
professor Dianne Cyr has been researching online buying habits and can
provide some insight into the lucrative - and sometimes deadly – online
pharmaceutical business.

Pine beetle wreaking havoc
Arthur Roberts, an SFU geography expert who has been tracking the pine beetle’s devastation of B.C. forests for years says the alarming conclusions of a new report are likely true for a specific region. But their widespread relevance has yet to be proven through more scientific information gathered over a longer period of time. Roberts is available to comment on the B.C. Forest Practices Board’s finding that pine beetle infestations are increasing the risk of flooding in B.C. rivers. He can also address the impact of pine beetle infestations on spawning habitats and the discovery that the voracious insect is not only ravaging mature trees but also young pines.

Deepening relations with Ghana
SFU President Michael Stevenson will welcome Ghanaian High Commissioner Margaret Ivy Amoakohene and Ghanaian Honorary Consul General George Addei-Piprah to a plaque presentation ceremony at SFU’s W.A.C. Bennett Library on Burnaby Mountain at 12 pm, March 23.
Their visit will mark Ghana’s 50th anniversary of independence from colonial rule and celebrate SFU’s deepening relations with the African nation, including SFU’s recent involvement in cultivating HIV/AIDS awareness among Ghanaian youth.
Sherri Brown, an SFU doctoral candidate who did her master’s research in Ghana is available to talk about Canada’s relationship with Ghana as well as her own research experiences.
