Watchdogs or lapdogs? SFU Vancouver will host a free public forum on Tuesday, Sept. 5 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. to examine how regulatory policies for genetic engineering and transgenic organisms should be improved. Speakers Beth Burrows, an internationally recognized expert in biosafety protocol, and University of Guelph agricultural professor Ann Clark, are available to comment on the inadequacy of Canadian regulatory agencies and processes related to the testing and release of genetically modified crops.

Surrey with the fringe...SFU Surrey arts professor Sasha Colby will trade her lectern for the footlights when her one-woman play about modernist poet Hilda Doolittle debuts at the Vancouver Fringe Festival on Friday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m. at the Fletcher Challenge Theatre at SFU Vancouver. Colby can share scenes from H.D. A Life, as well as insights into how her play helps break down barriers between the academic world and the larger community.
