B.C. and China sign pact on degrees

B.C. and China have signed an agreement allowing for more post-secondary degrees, diplomas and certificates to be recognized by both governments. The agreement was made Nov. 21 during Premier Gordon Campbell’s trade mission to China. SFU was also part of two signings, including an exchange agreement with Tsinghua University in Beijing and another involving Greek language training with Beijing University. Both are considered China’s top universities.

SFU is currently involved in the second year of a unique dual degree program with Zhejian University, which will see students obtain computing science degrees from both universities at the end of their studies. SFU computing science professor Ze-Nian Li can talk about the program pioneered by the two universities. The first cohort of students has completed a year at SFU and is now studying in China. Nello Angerilli, associate vice-president, students and international, is in Beijing and will return to campus Nov. 24.
