The new Masters of Digital Media (MDM) program at SFU's Great Northern Way campus (GNWC) is offering two $20,000 entrance scholarships for September 2007.

March 31 is the deadline for the first round of admissions to the program, which was approved by SFU's senate this month, and all applicants will be automatically considered for the scholarships. Students requiring an extension for completing their full application packages should contact student services director Christa Ovenell.

The two scholarships—one in the field of computer graphics and animation and the other in computer programming/engineering—are based solely on merit. "Two talented, extraordinary people will be awarded an opportunity to take their expertise to a level that was previously unattainable through an educational facility," says MDM program executive director Gerri Sinclair.

"This program will give graduates the skill set and experience necessary to become leaders in this field. Graduates will be instrumental in shaping where digital media goes over the next decade—and in creating a legacy of innovation through technology."

Tuition for the full-time, 20-month professional graduate degree program is $40,000 for Canadians and $60,000 for international students. It features team-based experiences focused on project learning in close collaboration with B.C.'s rapidly growing video games and digital entertainment industry.

The cohort-based program, with a paid internship, is aimed at those with an undergraduate degree in a range of disciplines in the arts and sciences including fine arts, computer science, communications, and business.

Each class will have a mix of professionals working in the industry and students continuing from an undergraduate program. Graduates will have the skills to be effective creators, practitioners and senior managers. The MDM degree will be jointly awarded by SFU, UBC, BCIT and the Emily Car Institute. www.gnwc.ca/mdm or 604-268-7304.
