SFU’s United Way Campaign raised an unprecedented $167,237. Co-chair Christine Kurbis, program coordinator with the Learning and Instructional Development Centre, says the event was the most successful ever, in funds raised and campus participation. While the number of donors (318) was down from last year’s 330, Kurbis was impressed with the leadership and community spirit shown during campaign fund-raisers and special events.

Nor did SFU’s efforts go unnoticed. The United Way of the Lower Mainland has nominated SFU for a United Way Community Spirit award. “It’s affirmation for me and co-chair Carol Macmillan that our 2007 campaign committee did an outstanding job in the area of outreach, networking and volunteer recruitment and involvement,” says Kurbis, who extends her thanks to everyone who lent a hand during the campaign.
