Former Clan soccer player and SFU grad Frode Strand-Nielsen recently donated $100,000, matched by SFU, to create a $200,000 scholarship endowment fund for the men's soccer team. The fund revenues will finance an annual Strand-Nielsen International Award in Men's Soccer. Strand-Nielsen, a Norwegian native, earned a BA in economics and business administration from SFU in 1979, followed by an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a managing partner of a private equity firm in Norway. Men's soccer coach Dave Elligott says the scholarship will help attract additional international student players to the Clan, a task made more difficult in recent years due to increased tuition fees. Strand-Nielsen told a local newspaper his experience at SFU “was a life-changing experience for me,” adding “there are a lot of young people around the world who can benefit from spending four years at Simon Fraser.”
