David Hannah and Chris Zatzick, assistant professors of management and organization studies at SFU Business, have won 2008 Ascendant Scholar awards from the Western Academy of Management (WAM), a regional division of the National Academy of Management.

The award recognizes exceptional academics no more than seven years out of their doctoral programs who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in research and teaching as well as strong career potential.

Hannah’s research into trade-secret protection in organizations earned him a Best Paper award in 2000 from WAM. He also holds a 2005 TD-Canada Trust teaching excellence award and a 2005 research excellence award, both from SFU Business.

Zatzick’s research into high-commitment work practices won a human resources division Best Paper award from WAM in 2004, while his teaching abilities consistently place him among the top 10 per cent of faculty on the SFU Business teaching honour roll.

The pair will receive their awards at WAM’s annual meeting March 26–29 in Oakland, CA.
