The Statistical Society of Canada recently elected SFU professor of statistics and actuarial science, Charmaine Dean, as its 32nd president. The society is a professional home to Canadian statisticans and is responsible for their accreditation. Dean says her term as president will focus on the needs of younger investigators as well as an internal review of the society. In June, she'll chair the society's annual meeting, to be held in Newfoundland, where the country's statisticians will gather to discuss controversies over fish stocks, climate change and forestry issues.
