SFU’s women’s studies department is presenting a performance by Indo-Canadian Odissa dancer Sitara Thobani on Monday, March 3 from 7–9 pm in the Fletcher Challenge Theatre (Room 1900) at the Vancouver campus at Harbour Centre.

Sitara is one of Canada’s top interpreters of the mahari tradition of Odissi, one of India’s seven classical dance styles.

She began her training in the U.S. followed by intensive training in India at the renowned Nrityagram dance school and with leading choreographers in Bhubaneswar, Orissa. Sitara has performed at many cultural and art events in North America, India, Tanzania and the United Kingdom. She completed her solo debut Rangapravesh performance in Vancouver in 2005.

Admission is free and seating is first come, first serve.
