The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is introducing a new B.A. featuring a joint major in linguistics and First Nations studies at the Burnaby and Kamloops campuses next fall.

The program will be flexible enough that it can be completed by speakers of First Nations languages. It will be taught through existing courses at the two campuses.

The interdisciplinary degree will prepare students to work in communities and institutions, documenting and teaching First Nations languages.

It will also prepare graduates for advanced studies and eventual leadership roles in First Nations projects and communities.

Burnaby campus students will be able to complete the program in four years.

Kamloops students may begin with the existing Certificate in First Nations Language Proficiency and then apply their studies toward the B.A.
