The SFU board of governors has confirmed the appointment of Wade Parkhouse (above) as dean of graduate studies from Sept. 1, 2008 to Aug. 31, 2013. A professor of kinesiology, Parkhouse is currently associate dean of research and graduate studies in the Faculty of Applied Sciences, a post he’s held since 2001.

He brings considerable internal and external administrative experience to his new position. He has served and/or chaired the scholar and trainee committees of the Heart and Stroke Foundation,  the BC Health Research Foundation (BCHRF), and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR). He was also the inaugural chair of the MSFHR Research Advisory Committee and a member of the former BCHRF Scientific Advisory Committee. He also serves on numerous university administrative, academic and research committees.

Parkhouse teaches energy metabolism and exercise biochemistry and researches and publishes extensively on therapeutic approaches to tissue regeneration associated with aging and neurodegenerative disorders.

The board of governors has also approved a second one-year extension to Michael Plischke’s term as dean of science, to Aug. 31, 2010.
