BCNET's 2008 advanced networks conference, Lighting the Path: Connections for the Future, takes place April 22-23 at SFU’s Vancouver campus at Harbour Centre.

The annual conference, known as western Canada’s premier technology event for research and higher education, will bring together more than 400 researchers, academics, IT professionals and government leaders from across B.C.

The conference will feature more than 30 sessions linked to virtualization and next generation networks, including interactive workshops, panels and keynote presentations.

The tracks of this years' conference are:
•    Collaboration and Learning Technologies
•    Network Planning and Strategies
•    Innovations in Network Research
•    Information Security and Shared Resources
•    Regional and National Initiatives

This year’s keynote speakers are Bradley C. Wheeler, chief information officer at Indiana University and Steven Hand, a senior lecturer from Cambridge University.

SFU panelists this year include: chief information officer Jim Cranston; BCNet IT manager Keir Novik (seconded part-time from SFU Network Services); Brian Owen, associate university librarian for processing and systems; professor Richard Smith, associate director of the School of Communication and director of the Centre for Policy Research on Science and Technology (CPROST); and Network engineer Peter van Epp.
