This month, the Geological Association of Canada (GAC) will award SFU earth sciences professor John Clague with Canada's most prestigious geoscience award—the 2007 Logan Medal. Clague, a Canada Research Chair in Natural Hazards, will receive the award for "sustained, distinguished achievement in earth science." His correlation of earthquake and tsunami events on the West Coast has helped prove that magnitude 6-7 earthquakes have affected southern Vancouver Island roughly once every 100 years.

The Logan Medal also honours Clague's ability to communicate complex science to the media and public.

Clague is also a Fellow in the Royal Society of Canada.
