SFU is cosponsoring a three-day free public symposium at the Segal Graduate School of Business and the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver to assess the effectiveness of aid for Africa in what has been characterized as a “post-aid world”.

Participants will discuss the role of various forms of development partnerships within the overall context of meeting the challenges Africa faces in achieving the UN’s Millennium Development Goals by 2015.

The event will feature prominent speakers including senior officials from the World Bank and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), scholars from Africa, Canada and the U.S., graduate students, representatives from the corporate and civil sectors, and the local community.

The event is being co-hosted by SFU's Community Education Program and the Office of International Development in Continuing Studies, the Development Group and the Focus on Africa Working Group.

In addition to SFU, the symposium’s sponsors include CIDA, the David and Cecilia Ting Endowment for Public Education, the Emmett and Leo Fund and Paul Kenny.
