Fast + Epp Structural Engineers have earned an award of merit from the Consulting Engineers of British Columbia for their structural work on the first phase of the new arts and social science complex (ASSC1) at SFU’s Burnaby campus.

Of the overall 18,600-square-metre complex (including Blusson Hall), ASSC1 comprises about 7,400 square metres. The two-storey pre-cast and cast-in-place concrete structure with exposed concrete and timber roofs includes classrooms, labs, 150-seat and 300-seat lecture theatres, a 17-metre-long link bridge and a large atrium space.

Among other things, the firm was recognized for its use of a hybrid floor system to meet the university’s strict requirement of maximum flexibility throughout the building to allow for future layout changes.
