Bruce Clayman, an SFU professor who became the first president and CEO at the Great Northern Way campus (2004-06), is this year’s winner of the prestigious Walter Hitschfeld Award from the Canadian Association of University Research Administrators (CAURA).

The award recognizes his exceptional dedication to advancing public, investor and government support of university-based research in Canada.

Clayman was a founding member of the Tri-Council Advisory Group, a body established by Canada’s three major research-funding organizations to help implement a national policy on research ethics.

He is currently vice-chair and chair-designate of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, which he helped establish as a founding member of the funding agency’s board of directors. He also serves on the Vancouver Economic Development Commission.
