Phone number conversions for the Vancouver campus and Wosk Centre for Dialogue will occur on July 16. The Burnaby campus is completing the switch in two stages in August, with all phones converted by August 13. So if you get a wrong-number message after dialing an SFU colleague remember: their four suffix digits are probably still the same; just punch in 778.782 first.

Tips and tidbits

  • Many of the 778-782-XXXX numbers for general offices have already been activated with callers forwarded to the current 291 or 268 telephone number.
  • The SFU 2007/2008 Calendar, Telus’ White & Yellow Pages and some departmental brochures will publish the new numbers.
  • Information will be available for the community at large on the SFU home page (www.sfu.ca).
  • Things to do and/or consider to ease the transition
  • Include new numbers in your email/correspondence signatures
  • Update departmental websites
  • Revise publications/stationery/business cards
  • Re-label each office telephone with its new number
  • Apply new emergency response telephone-number labels to be provided in next billing package)
  • Update your campus directory by printing the pdf file found at www.sfu.ca/phonebook (updated and posted weekly)
  • And for the day your number is up
    • In the afternoon, call your number (both old and new) to ensure everything is working properly; report any problems to (2)4113, (2)3003 or e-mail phones@sfu.ca

Re-program telephone speed calls to the new five-digit local (2)XXXX—especially voice mail boxes

And that’s it. Easy peasy. If you have any questions or concerns, call Mary Allen (3003) or Sharon Nelson (4113).
