Three SFU librarians’ contributions to the university and library communities were acknowledged recently with prestigious awards. Gwen Bird, associate university librarian, collections services, received a 2008 Outstanding Contribution Award from the Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries for her service to this consortium of 20 university libraries.

Don Taylor, electronic resources librarian, won the 2008 Robert H. Blackburn Distinguished Paper award from the Canadian Association of College and University Libraries. His paper revealed that SFU faculty are making significant use of electronic journals now available through special ‘big deal’ consortia with other libraries, which give access to all of a publisher’s online journals.

Elaine Fairey, associate university librarian, public services, received the BC Library Association’s Academic Librarians in Public Service’s award for outstanding service for her leadership in creating the SFU Learning Commons.
