SFU’s board of governors has approved the appointment of Glen Whyte as dean of SFU Business, commencing Jan. 1, 2008. Carolyne Smart has agreed to extend her term as acting dean of business administration in the interim.

Whyte (above) is a professor of organizational behavior and human resource management at the University of Toronto and a former associate dean and executive director of the university’s Rotman School of Management MBA program.

Whyte also holds the Canadian Credit Management Foundation Chair in Integrative Thinking at the Rotman School. He is an expert in negotiation, decision-making, dispute resolution and risk management and has extensive consulting experience in private- and public-sector organizations.

Whyte has taught at U of T since 1989 and served as executive director of the MBA program from 1995-98. He is also a lawyer, an award-winning teacher and researcher and the former holder of the Simon Reisman Chair at the Treasury Board of Canada.

Whyte holds an MBA from U of T and MA, MPhil and PhD degrees in organizational behaviour from the School of Management at Yale University.

SFU’s search committee acknowledged his strong research record with publications in high quality journals and noted that his research works have made a significant impact in his field.
