Ellesmere United Church has just moved from its old location in Burnaby’s Capitol Hill area to the Cornerstone building adjacent to SFU’s Burnaby campus. The newly opened worship space at unit 160—8960 University High Street is located between the UniverCity residential development and the bus loop. The church’s minister, Rev. Douglas Throop, says the worship space’s unique design allows for multiple uses that will blend the sacred and the secular. The United Church of Canada includes congregations ranging from moderately conservative to very liberal, but is generally regarded as one of the most socially liberal of the world’s large Evangelical Protestant denominations.
