SFU has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 employers for the second year in a row by publisher Mediacorp Canada. It selected the 100 best from a list of about 16,000 invited organizations after reviewing almost 75,000 employers. The complete list appeared in the Oct. 2 issue of Maclean’s Magazine, which partners with Medicorp each year to produce the country’s most comprehensive independent study into workplace benefits. Criteria include an in-depth examination of various aspects of the work environment, including the physical work place, wages, benefits and amenities

Factors include workforce makeup, physical environment, health and financial benefits and compensation, programs for older employees, training and development, environmental leadership and community involvement. SFU was cited for such offerings as its summer day-camp programs for employees’ and faculty members’ children and free fitness facilities. McGill University and the University of Alberta were the only other university employers on the list. Today’s Parent Magazine also named SFU one of the country’s top 10 family-friendly employers last year.
