Canadian author Hiromi Goto is SFU’s new writer-in-residence for the fall and spring. Her experience as a writer, cultural critic, arts advocate, organizer and creative writing teacher will be useful as she consults with students to develop their skills and interest in Canadian literature. The writer-in-residence also counsels creative writers seeking advice from an established writer on their manuscripts. Goto’s first novel, Chorus of Mushrooms, won the 1995 Commonwealth Prize for best first book in Canada and the Caribbean region, and was co-winner of the Canada-Japan Book Award. She published a collection of short stories, Hopeful Monsters and will publish a young adult novel, Half World, in 2009.
