Chair in Cardiovascular Research
October 19, 2007
SFU is about to launch an international search for Western Canada’s first Chair in Cardiovascular Prevention Research. It will be named the Pfizer/Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. & Yukon Chair in Cardiovascular Prevention Research at St. Paul’s Hospital to acknowledge the partners supporting this chair. The Chair will hold a full-time tenure appointment in the Faculty of Health Sciences and will be located at the Heart Centre, Providence Heart and Lung Institute at St. Paul’s Hospital. This will build on the faculty’s public-health research strength and advance the clinical strengths of St. Paul’s/Providence Health Care. Research will focus on gaining understanding of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death for British Columbians, and new prevention strategies. Key contributors to this $4.5 million endowed chair: Pfizer Canada Inc. ($1.25 million), the Heart and Stroke Foundation of B.C. & Yukon ($750,000), an anonymous $1 million donor to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation and SFU ($1.5 million).
