Go beyond Google and acquire nifty skills such as tracing someone’s e-mail at “Mastering the Web as an Investigative Tool for Science Writers,” a hands-on one-day workshop at SFU’s Surrey campus Wed., Nov. 28. Led by award-winning investigative journalist Julian Sher (above), creator and webmaster of JournalismNet, you’ll learn dozens of advanced tricks and tips to finding the best news, experts and scientific and academic resources online. Sher has trained thousands of journalists worldwide. He’ll deliver the skinny with no geek talk and no techno-babble.

Sponsored by the Canadian Science Writers Association (CSWA), the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and SFU, the workshop is open to the public but CSWA members get preference. Participants will make use of computer-lab machines to learn new Internet sleuthing methods. Registration limited: office@sciencewriters.ca. Details: www.sciencewriters.ca/vancouver-research-workshop
