More than 100 elders and leaders from the Fraser Valley Sto:lo Nation gathered at the Xa:ytem Longhouse Interpretive Centre in Mission Nov. 2 for the unveiling of a new website that recreates life in ancient longhouses and pithouse villages in the region.

The website, A Journey into Time Immemorial, is a collaborative project between Xa:ytem and SFU’s Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, together with the university’s Learning and Instructional Development Centre.

The work, which weaves stunning graphics with oral history, complements the award-winning site, A Journey to a New Land, completed two years ago.

Both projects are designed for use in schools and were funded by the Virtual Museum of Canada investment program. They can be seen at www.sfu.museum/time and www.sfu.museum/journey.
