SFU’s 2007 Fall calling program raised more than $310,000 this year from about 4,000 generous donors, including almost 500 new donors who accounted for $20,000 in donations, says campaign manager Sofia Janmohamed.

“The calling program underwent dramatic renovations this summer and switched over from manual calling to an automated system,” says Janmohamed.

“Our team also successfully increased the upgrade rate and new donor average gift from last fall. The students attempted almost 80,000 calls and contacted more than 10,000 graduates.

“And our Continuous, Monthly Giving Program continues to grow with more than 250 donors joining the group this fall. The program is now generating more than $80,000 in annual donations from more than 700 donors.

Janmohamed credits an “outstanding student team” for the program’s results, adding that the deans of every SFU faculty and the SFU Library lent their time to motivate the callers and their resources to buy prizes and pizzas for the team.

Students Kevin Fung (outstanding top caller) and Marla Folden (outstanding student ambassador) led the calling pack this year, but Janmohamed says everyone “went beyond the call of duty – no pun intended.”

She also credits the direction of student leaders Jill Knox, Marta Bielec and Arzina Zaver and lead athletics fundraiser Mary Ann Berg for their mentorship and motivation.

“And I want to thank Marta Malecki, our campaign assistant, for her ongoing commitment and outstanding leadership. Implementing automation would not have been possible without her.”
