This year’s Vancouver Short Film Festival attracted 48 entries in the Emerging Filmmakers category, with just nine selected for presentation. Three of those are by SFU film students David McDonald, Jung-Sun Song and Julia Hutchings.
McDonald’s sci-fi thriller Empire City explores a city controlled by crime, power and corruption, while Song’s drama, The Letters, examines one student's thoughts and experiences on graduating from high school.
Hutching’s Irradiate follows a daughter torn between social and emotional responsibility when she finds her mother dead on the back porch of her farmhouse, set in a backdrop of silent prairie fields.
The films will air Oct. 28 at 7:30 pm at Vancity Theatre.
