The Hellenic studies department’s free Odysseas Greek language iPhone application—a light version of its Odysseas Greek Language Tutor—has been downloaded some 40 times a day since its release last March, with users giving it a four-out-of-five-star rating.

Now a team led by department chair André Gerolymatos is releasing an iPad version this fall.

The Odysseas Greek Language Tutor is an interactive learning program designed to teach Greek language and culture on the Internet.

The result of five years of research and development led by Hellenic studies technology manager, Costa Dedegikas, the tutor provides an introduction to the Greek language for students with no prior experience. It’s used at educational institutions throughout the world including a dozen U.S. and 19 Chinese universities.

The Odysseas Greek Language Tutor is available for free at www.greeklanguagetutor.com. The free Odysseas iPhone app, and soon the iPad app,
can be downloaded from iTunes.com at at.sfu.ca/nVcDDT.
