SFU has appointed Laurie Anderson, associate superintendent of continuing and international education at the Vancouver School Board, as executive director of the university’s Vancouver campus, effective Nov. 1. He replaces acting executive director Susan Jamieson-McLarnon and former executive director Ann Cowan, who is on medical leave.

Anderson has worked at the school board in a senior leadership capacity for the past 12 years. He began as director of community and continuing education services, moved to associate superintendent in 2002 and was interim superintendent in a transitional phase in 2009. SFU’s executive search committee was unanimous, citing the complexity of his background in a large urban educational organization combined with his self-professed vocation for teaching. Anderson has a long history with SFU and its flexible degree-completion options, having earned three education degrees at the university while working full-time.
