SFU Business undergrad Jessica Wang turned heads when she landed an international co-op work semester in Paris, France.

Wang is working as a marketing intern for L’Oreal Paris in its Hair Care Asia Zone. Her duties include market analysis and assisting the product manager in coordinating international product launches and overseeing package design.

Wang got the job thanks to contacts she developed during her participation two months earlier in L’Oreal’s e-Strat competition. Those contacts helped her secure an interview with L’Oreal’s global product-line division. She is the first SFU co-op student to be hired by the company.

Wang, who has completed two previous co-op internships elsewhere, is thrilled with the challenges she is encountering on the job.

"It was tough at first, given the work load and constant pressure of deadlines," she says. "However, this really trains interns to become well-organized and efficient, as well as great at prioritizing and multi-tasking."

Approximately 2,000 students participate each year in the co-op education program, with 120 to 160 students finding international internships.

"Co-op has definitely been one of the best things I have done during my degree," says Wang. "I have travelled to many places. This kind of international experience has enriched my knowledge of different work cultures and has made me much more open-minded."
