Communication student Gala Milne took this prize-winning photo just prior to the groundbreaking ceremony for Yabuli Sun Mountain, a new five-star ski resort opening in Northeast China. Milne worked there for a month on a self-directed, international co-op work term, teaching English to staff.

"Gaming tycoon Lawrence Ho came to Yabuli for 20 minutes for this ceremony," says Milne. "Preparation time was two weeks. This is a testament to the chaos I witnessed while working abroad."

Milne entered the photo, which depicts fashion models in the foreground and construction workers on bamboo scaffolding, in the 2008 Work Integrated Learning (WIL) photo contest. She won first prize—a Nikon D90 digital single-lens reflex (SLR) camera.

Muriel Klemetski, director of WIL, says, "The contest is a great way for us to build community spirit and to directly gain and showcase students’ perspectives of the various work or volunteer-related opportunities we offer through WIL."
