Surrey school kids and their parents can now get help for a variety of personal and educational issues at a new community counselling centre operated by SFU and the Surrey school district in the L.A. Matheson Secondary School. SFU interim education dean Suzanne de Castell and Surrey schools superintendent Mike McKay officially opened the SFU Surrey Counselling Centre Feb. 3. SFU is staffing the centre with qualified staff and graduate students conducting practicums while the school district is contributing the clinic facilities, says centre director Patrice Keats. The centre offers counselling on everything from parenting problems to bereavement, depression, anxiety, bullying and sexual orientation.
