March is Earth Month at SFU—a month-long university-wide celebration promoting earth- and people-friendly lifestyles. Planned events include a campus-wide Green Living challenge. Sustainability ambassadors are challenging students, staff and faculty to "choose to re-use" for the month by switching to one of five disposable-free actions for reducing disposable waste:
  • Use a reusable water bottle instead of buying bottled water.
  • Use a reusable coffee mug instead of buying coffee in a throw-away cup.
  • Bring your lunch in a reusable container instead of eating out.
  • When dining in, eschew Styrofoam or plastic containers.
  • Ask for china when ordering catering for an event or meeting.
Those who opt in are eligible to win healthy and sustainable prizes such as a gift basket of organic produce and fair trade items from Nesters, a collection of green living "must-have" books or three personal training sessions from an SFU personal trainer. To participate, sign up on March 1 at
