Pearson Education, Canada’s largest educational publisher, has selected a textbook by SFU Business professors Andrew Gemino and Peter Tingling as its 2008 Canadian book of the year. Entitled Experiencing MIS (management information systems), it is a Canadian adaptation of an American textbook. Gemino and Tingling wrote the Canadian version to stimulate student interest in MIS, a course experiencing declining enrolment at universities. “Students were telling us that the more traditional MIS textbooks were not engaging to read,” says Gemino. The Canadian version has 200 fewer pages, a new chapter on ethics and governance, and 16 new Canadian cases. Pearson selected the text based on its overall innovation and creativity, product and market development, use of technology and sales performance.
