Third-year Clan athletes Arjan Bhullar and Robyn Buna are the 2009 Lorne Davies Male and Female Athletes of the Year.

Bhullar, an arts major and heavyweight wrestler on the men’s wrestling team, was a unanimous choice for the award after becoming the first Clan athlete to ever win both a CIS and NAIA national championship in the same season. Bhullar also helped the Clan to win their first CIS wrestling national championship, ending Brock University’s streak of 10 straight championships.

Buna, a kinesiology major and guard on the women’s basketball team, guided the Clan to their fourth CIS national championship in eight seasons earlier this month by scoring 20 points in the Clan’s 68-62 victory over the Regina Cougars in the national final. Buna averaged a team high 16.0 points-per-game on the season, and was also named a First-Team Canada West all-star and Second-Team CIS All-Canadian in 2009. Buna also was named the Clan’s top scholar-athlete after posting a cumulative GPA of 4.17 (out of a possible 4.33) in kinesiology.
