International student Zhengdong Xu’s clever logo design for the new SFU e-mail/calendaring system, SFU Connect, beat out 242 entries in a logo competition. The design, which turns the ‘C’ of Connect into an envelope, won him an iPod touch donated by the SFU Microcomputer Store.

The system is now fully implemented across all campuses. Its advanced web interface, accessed at, features far more than basic e-mail. It includes a single calendar system standard for all SFU accounts, an address book, task lists, built-in documents, file storage, shared folders and SFU-specific functionality. Additional zimlets, or small programs, give immediate access to mySFU and myINFO. In future, look for further zimlets that will be added as the technical team completes them. They’re currently working on a zimlet to connect students and instructors to course resources such as WebCT and course books.
