You’ve cut down on paper usage, you religiously turn off your office computer and lights every night and you generally run a tight, eco-friendly ship at work. But don’t stop there, says SFU sustainability coordinator Candace Bonfield. Why not adopt your own area outside of your office and help keep it running sustainably too? It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3, says Bonfield:
  • Adopt an area you visit frequently. It could be the route from your parking space or drop-off location to your office, or the path to your favourite campus coffee spot.
  • Keep your eyes open in your adopted area and correct or report energy-wasting faux pas such as needlessly open public windows and doors.
  • Submit your ideas for making your area leaner and greener to sustainability@sfu.ca.
"If each person on campus adopted one small area and helped make it greener," says Bonfield, "imagine the difference this would make."
