Tom Nesbit has been appointed provisional dean of Continuing Studies from Sept. 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010. Nesbit, who joined Continuing Studies in 1995 as the founding director of the Centre for Labour Studies, is currently associate dean and director of the Centre for Integrated and Credit Studies.

The latter centre manages extension credit courses for part-time students at the Vancouver campus and develops integrated studies programs that offer degree-completion opportunities for adult learners.

"This is a tremendous opportunity to lead one of Canada’s most dynamic university continuing-education units," says Nesbit. "I look forward to working with such an excellent team of colleagues to keep SFU in the forefront of lifelong learning developments."

In addition to his considerable administrative experience at SFU, Nesbit has a significant and current publication record in several areas related to adult education. One of the first graduates of Britain’s Open University, he holds master’s and doctoral degrees in adult education.

Continuing Studies works with a wide variety of business and community partners within and outside the university to develop lifelong learning activities locally, provincially, nationally and internationally. It offers a wide range of education programs and community engagement services at all three campuses.

Hey Tom,

Greetings from the picket line at VIU!

I have a friend who is coming from Sacramento to look at the imaginative education conference and possibly a Master's in Education at SFU.

Hope to pop in and see you between April 18 -20 if you're on campus then?
