SFU has an H1N1 pandemic preparedness plan to help the university’s more than 30,000 students, faculty and staff handle expected flare-ups of the virus this fall.

The key points:
  • Educate yourself.
  • Control the spread of infection through hand-washing.
  • Make note of the provincial government’s health-care advice phone line, 8-1-1.

SFU emergency operations centre will monitor and coordinate actions at the university in response to pandemic developments, and disseminate ongoing updates.

Apollonia Cifarelli, director of environmental health and safety, designed the plan in collaboration with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC), which dictates how Canadian public institutions such as SFU respond to a health emergency.

An overview of the plan is at: www.sfu.ca/pamr/pandemic.html, which includes links to key sites—such as SFU’s instructive www.sfu.ca/H1N1. For questions not answered at this website, e-mail ehs_sfu@sfu.ca.
