The Fraser River Journey, a multi-award-winning documentary film produced by SFUs Learning and Instructional Development Centre (LIDC) media design group, has won two more prestigious awards. The film took top honours at the University and College Designers Association’s 39th annual design competition. It also won Best of Category at the international Horizon Interactive Awards, which attracted 2000 entries from 32 countries.

The 2008 documentary, which premiered on CBC-TV last June, plumbs the hearts and minds of 12 B.C. aboriginal youths as they raft down the Fraser River, retracing Simon Fraser’s 1808 exploration of the river that now bears his name. Wielding video cameras to document their adventure, they learn about the importance of the river in B.C. native history, while revealing their own challenges and aspirations. You can view a three-minute trailer of The Fraser River Journey at the university’s YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/sfunews, within the playlist SFU News, Research and Community.
