Last May, Vancouver city council resolved to provide unrestricted online access to as much city information and statistical data as possible while respecting privacy and security concerns. The idea behind the "open data initiative" is to open the doors to everything from election results to garbage collection statistics that people can download and analyze themselves, using spreadsheet, database and other computer programs. Vancouver city councillor Andrea Reimer will explain the new initiative on Friday, Oct. 23, noon-1 pm, Burnaby campus, Library room 7200.
