SFU Business has become one of the first university business schools in Canada to appoint a sustainability entrepreneur-in-residence.

Boyd Cohen, a former SFU Business assistant professor and green entrepreneur, has returned as an adjunct professor to take up the new appointment.

Cohen stepped away from the academic tenure track earlier this year to focus on his own sustainability business, 3rd Whale Media, which garnered considerable publicity last year for initiating a search for the greenest person on the planet.

Cohen has since merged the company with GenGreen LLC to form a new company, GenGreen Digital Media, which is essentially a digital green pages that uses web and mobile technology to connect green consumers with green businesses. Cohen will remain as president.

Daniel Shapiro, dean of SFU Business, says Cohen’s appointment aligns with the school’s mission to educate and inspire the founders, leaders and managers of organizations that are internationally competitive, locally responsive and sustainable.

In his new position, Cohen will provide expertise and support to undergraduate and MBA students interested in green tech, green energy and sustainable business practices.
