A memorandum of agreement between SFU and the 21st Burnaby Highlanders Scouts Group means young Spencer Riekman (above) and his peers have a home on the hill for at least the next two years. It also entitles the group, which includes youths from Louis Riel House and UniverCity, to incorporate SFU’s name into its promotional materials. The nearly 50 five-to-12-year-olds are led by university students, staff and UniverCity residents. The group meets in Faculty of Education classrooms and recently held a fundraising popcorn sale on campus. David Newman, a PhD student in the School of Communication and the scout’s group administrator, says the group welcomes youths of families on campus. He is organizing a new Rover Crew, which targets 18-26- year-olds and focuses on outdoor activities and service within the university community.
